JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

The successful candidate will work on a highly translational project investigating responses to chemoimmunotherapy in newly diagnosed high risk neuroblastoma using correlative samples from a Phase III clinical trial. While the foundational framework of the project has been laid, there will be the opportunity to help design and conduct additional studies while receiving advanced training in all aspects of clinical correlative and translational investigations. It is expected that the appointee will develop new ideas that promote our current research. Funding is available and will be provided for this position, but the appointee will be strongly encouraged to write and apply for outside funding to foster career development.

Preferred Skills: Candidates should have strong expertise in either immunology or cell and cancer biology. Candidates with demonstrated expertise in cytometry and immunophenotyping, including sample processing, data acquisition, and cytometry data analysis using FlowJo/Cytobank software, will receive prioritized consideration. A proficient skillset in functional immunology assays is also strongly preferred. Animal handling experience is desired as the successful appointee may be required to perform animal experiments.

Minimum Qualifications: Requirements include a doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field; self-motivation, strong work ethic and a willingness to learn new technologies; effective judgment and problem solving skills with little or no supervision; strong attention to detail and multi-tasking. The candidate must speak and write English fluently and should have a previous track record of writing and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
