Job Summary/Basic Function
About This Role:
As part of the payroll team, under the supervision of the Director of Payroll, the Payroll Assistant will aid in the processing and reviewing of the biweekly and monthly payrolls. Responsibilities include analyzing and gathering payroll information needed for the Payroll Specialists to process the payrolls; running scheduled payroll reports for other payroll personnel to use. This person must be able to interpret and understand Texas State and University Payroll Policies and Procedures.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities
Responsible for assisting Payroll Specialists in the preparation and processing of the biweekly and monthly payrolls | 55%
Responsible for Approving and Applying Electronic Personnel Action Forms | 20%
Responsible for running scheduled payroll reports and create reports as needed | 7%
Responsible for contacting departments in assuring timesheets are approved timely and accurately | 5%
Responsible for maintaining/scanning regular and off-cycle payroll documents according to a retention schedule | 5%
Responsible to answer/route phone calls and emails accordingly | 5%
Responsible for other duties assigned by Director of Payroll; responsibilities are subject to change based on the needs of the department | 3%

General knowledge of payroll and related terminology

Must have high quality of customer service skills
Physical Requirements:
Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing.
Frequent standing, and/or sitting.

Reach with hands and arms.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent Experience
Entry-level, minimum of 2-years Payroll related experience
