Compensation:

Associate Transit Management Analyst: $86,565 - $112,083

Assistant Transit Management Analyst Level II: $76,577 - $85,288

Assistant Transit Management Analyst Level I: $65,954 - $78,079

Responsibilities:

The NYCT Department of Subways, with over 6,400 subway cars and 472 stations, employs 29,000 individuals who work together 24/7, 365 days a year, to move millions of customers safely to their destinations. These employees operate trains, maintain railcars, assist customers in stations, make critical right-of-way and electronic repairs, and provide technical and analytic support to deliver timely and reliable customer services. The Operations Support Division provides analytical and management support to the operating divisions.

Within this division, the Performance Analysis Unit (PAU) is looking for an eager and creative data analyst to join our team. PAU is the data arm of the Subways operation and owns and interprets data and analytics for senior leadership. We are a small team that makes large impacts where leadership has determined they’re needed most.

This role involves a high-level view of the entire Subways organization and provides opportunities to work on high visibility, high-impact projects.

Developing and reporting department-wide targets to meet Subways annual performance goals.

Investigating trends in asset failures alongside divisions to inform maintenance planning.

Analyzing station and trip runtimes to identify corridors with potential for operational improvements.

Building real-time performance dashboards to improve communication and goal tracking between the Rail Control Center and senior leadership.

Analyzing large operational, financial and performance data sets to solve operating issues.

Presenting complex information to various audiences, including senior executives, operating managers, board members and the public.

Creating dashboards and tools to collect, report and analyze Subways data

Developing quick, creative data solutions in a fast-paced, rigorous environment

Serving as the liaison between Subways and various operating and business divisions.

Education and Experience:

  1. A master's degree from an accredited college in business administration, public administration, public policy,

engineering technology, economics, architecture, mathematics, physics, computer science, finance, accounting,

transportation planning, industrial psychology, urban planning/studies, human resources management, labor

relations, operations research, security management or in a related area, and two (2) years of full time satisfactory

professional experience in the collection, evaluation and use of data relating to operational procedures,

administrative systems, equipment and space utilization, and staffing requirements, including the preparation of

charts, graphs, drawings and technical reports. One year of experience must have been in the transportation industry; or

  1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in one of the areas listed above and three (3) years of full-time related experience, of which one (1) year must have been in the transportation industry; or

Assistant Transit Management Analyst: I - II.

  1. A master's degree from an accredited college in business administration, public administration, public policy,

engineering, engineering technology, economics, architecture, mathematics, physics, computer science, finance,

accounting, transportation planning, industrial psychology, urban planning/studies, human resources management,

labor relations, operations research, security management or in a related area, and one (1) year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in the collection, evaluation and use of data relating to operational procedures,

administrative systems, equipment and space utilization, and staffing requirements, including the preparation of

charts, graphs, drawings and technical reports; or

  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in one of the areas listed in ‘1’ above; and two years of

satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in ‘1’ above.

Note: A master’s degree may be substituted for one year of experience as described herein.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of and strong interest in subway design, operations, and maintenance

  • Experience with exploratory data analysis and making unfamiliar, complex data meaningful.

  • Proficiency in various data analytics tools (SQL is required, and Python is a plus).

  • Strong data communication skills, including technical writing and data visualization for various audiences with different levels of communication.

  • Comfort working on short-term, high-visibility projects in fast-paced environment.

All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MaBSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
