LAYTON CITY Staff Engineer I , II or Senior in LAYTON, Utah

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of professional, technical and complex duties as needed to assist in coordinating and participating in the design, development and construction of City infrastructure. Serves as an engineering project leader or manager in performing administrative and technical functions.

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Promotes and follows the City's mission statement, values and expectations.
  • Conduct engineering division review and approval of commercial and residential project plans and construction drawings during development review process.
  • Prepare preliminary and final construction plans and specifications for City capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinate a variety of operations and activities undertaken by the Engineering Division related to infrastructure analysis and public works systems. Emphasis on roadway design, construction, and maintenance and transportation engineering.
  • Represent the City to Federal, State, County, and local jurisdictions.
  • Prepare various reports, projections, and evaluations as required.
  • Assists with various aspects of project management and scheduling for assigned capital improvement projects.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating City maps and specifications.
  • Provides miscellaneous drafting services to other departments as needed.

Performs related duties as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Staff Engineer I $34.41 - $48.17

Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering;

AND

Two (2) years experience provided through internships or similar work setting;

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Staff Engineer II $36.13 - $50.58

Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering;

AND

Four (4) years of experience in civil engineering design and/or construction with progressively increasing responsibilities.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Senior Staff Engineer $37.94 - $53.11

Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering;

AND

Six (6) years of experience in civil engineering design and/or construction with progressively increasing responsibilities.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Excel, Word and other applicable software.
  • Some knowledge of political, legal and governmental processes affecting various engineering programs and project management.
  • Software applications, civil engineering methods, principles and practices.
  • Construction methods and materials common to public works projects.
  • Engineering standar ds and codes and technical and practical design of public works systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; read and interpret plans and specifications; visualize completed projects in planning stages and estimate the end result.
  • Some knowledge of traffic signalization equipment and controls.
  • Use of a variety of technical engineering equipment and drafting tools.
  • Technical and practical design of public works systems.
