The role

Reporting to the Managing Director of the Economist Intelligence and with a dotted line to the Editor-in-Chief of The Economist, the Global Head of Content will lead the EI’s core Country and Industry research and analysis teams globally. You will ensure all of our content and products across country analysis and industry are being produced to the right quality standard, with the right insights and delivered to clients at the right time. You will work to develop the team’s capabilities and working practices to ensure that we are constantly improving the value we deliver to our clients and making the best use of our internal expertise and contributor networks. You will help build and execute on a plan to build out the EI’s proprietary data capabilities and to ensure that our content strategy reflects both the qualitative and quantitative needs of our clients.

You will work closely with the EI’s Chief Economist, who is responsible for the forecast models, analytical line taken and methodologies deployed, the Commercial Director and Chief Digital Officer to develop products and insight in line with customer requirements.

Accountabilities

Overall leadership responsibilities and reporting:

  • Role reports to EIU Managing Director, with a dotted line to the Editor-in-Chief.

  • Role is responsible for leading and developing all of the editorial teams: Europe, LATAM, Asia and MEA, Production and Sub Edit.

  • Role is responsible for ensuring that the editorial team’s capabilities and working practices are developed to allow the EIU to deliver ever more relevant and timely insights to our clients.

  • Role is responsible for the development of EIU’s content strategy, encompassing data and quantitative insights and qualitative analysis and insights.

    How you will contribute:

  • Directly lead the EIU regional teams and industry analysis teams.

  • Provide strong leadership and management oversight of the editorial teams, ensuring that they develop and produce high quality and commercially viable content.

  • Relentlessly seek to evaluate the content being produced by your editorial teams and seek to develop new data and analytical offerings which are more closely aligned to client requirements and reflect changes in the competitive landscape.

  • Develop a content strategy that reflects our requirements for proprietary and unique data and forecasts to represent a larger share of our overall content and product offering.

  • Leverage new technologies to seek efficiencies in content creation.

  • Ensure that methodologies remain up-to-date and best-in-class in partnership with the Chief Economist.

  • Ensure that research and insight being published is commercially relevant.

  • Be a key contributor to EIU strategy development, ensuring that the editorial teams you lead are used in a way which drives the business forward

  • Maintain a culture within the editorial teams which is responsive, collaborative and customer focused.

  • Ensure that the editorial teams you lead work effectively with other parts of the EIU and other businesses and functions within the Group matrix.

  • Work to build intellectual capacity within the teams ensuring that thematic expertise is continuously develope

Experience, skills and professional attributes

  • Experience of leading, motivating and developing analytical and editorial teams at scale

  • Experience of managing and leading within a B2B digital publishing business

  • Experience of operating within a matrix structure or managing senior stakeholders

  • Preferably experience of operating in an environment where brand integrity and principles guide all of the products and insight being produced and are deeply embedded in the culture of the organisation

  • Experience of having managed complex change in a diverse, global environment

  • Extensive travel required
