Job Title: Sample Login & Logistics/ Laboratory Technician
Reports to: Laboratory Supervisor / Laboratory Manager
Department: Sample Logistics/Environmental Micro
Location: Winnipeg, MB
Full-Time
Basic Purpose:
This is a split position. Time will be split between Sample Login & Logistics and the Laboratory
Time is generally split 50/50 or as workload requires and includes:
Sample receipt, preparation of supplies and shipping related duties for all clients in support of the Sample Logistics Team. This position also includes administrative functions
Results oriented to produce high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time by following applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
Perform sample preparation / extractions and some basic analysis of target compounds under specific matrices and provides general lab support in the analysis of samples
Inputting sample information into computer database efficiently and accurately – data entry comprises 80% of this role
Ensure appropriate test code and parameters are entered for every job, either by using a quote, profile or master test code list
Key Accountability/Responsibilities:
Greet all clients in a friendly, positive manner
Receive all external client samples, unpack and organize them according to analytical requirements
Ensure client samples are entered into LIMS and approved in a timely manner according to sample holding time, test code, due date, and / or received date
Ensure all required samples are redirected as required
Prepare bottle orders requests and coordinate delivery of bottle orders
Ensure accuracy of results and data entry
Recognize routine and non-routine problems and escalate to the Supervisor
Ensure supply inventories are maintained
Proactively ensure overall satisfaction of regional client base including communication to project management and supervisor as appropriate
Monitor/Calibrate the temperatures of fridges, thermometers and temperature guns
Ensure accuracy of information for all in-house projects (including, but not limited to test codes and project references)
Investigate and resolve outstanding issues/jobs through departmental collaboration
Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) when conducting following work:
Perform sample preparation and procedures prior to analyses
Perform some basic testing procedures
Identify any non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling
Meet quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements.
Identify and communicate procedural non-conformances to Supervisor
Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabelling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials.
Provide general lab support in addition to conducting sample preparation and basic laboratory analysis
Provide supervisor/manager with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays
Keep work area clean, neat and organized
Maintain training records and relevant qualifications
Attend regular team meetings to share Corporate and Departmental information and to communicate and share ideas.
Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program
Adhere to Bureau Veritas’ quality systems QA/QC, SOPs and external accreditation requirement
Participate, when requested in internal and external audits
Ensure "Good Housekeeping" standards are met or exceeded
Skills and Knowledge:
University degree or college diploma in Sciences, microbiology, chemistry or related environmental discipline
Experience in a laboratory environment is an asset.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs is required
Excellent attention to detail
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
Ability to work independently as well as engage others when required in escalation of concerns to meet the client needs or to best manage client disappointments
Energetic and keen with a positive attitude who thrives in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking, prioritizing and adapting to changes are required

Some lifting and carrying (up to 40 lbs) and may involve long periods of standing

The salary range for this role is $18-$22
Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
