Ottawa County Sanitary Engineering Department Seasonal Laborer in Port Clinton, Ohio

The Seasonal Laborer position in the Sanitary Engineering Department: performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks for the purpose of maintaining and repairing water/wastewater equipment and vehicles; operates heavy and special equipment; assists in the construction of projects, and repair or fabrication of components when necessary.

 

Essential Knowledge, Abilities and Skills, Education

· High school graduate or equivalent

· Ability to perform manual duties under adverse climatic working conditions

· Ability to work cooperatively with associates and public

· General maintenance and mechanical skills required

· Knowledge of water and wastewater maintenance procedures

 

Essential Functions of the Position

  1. Performs various semi-skilled tasks to assist in the maintenance of water/wastewater systems to ensure a safe and effective working condition

  2. Assists in the installation of water taps

  3. Assists in the replacement or repair of water and sewer mains

  4. Assists in the flushing of water and sewer mains

  5. Assists in the replacement/repair of manholes

  6. Assists with the repair of water meters

  7. Maintains the proper operating condition of equipment by performing basic mechanical maintenance and repairs as necessary

  8. Changes fluids, lubricates moving parts, replaces worn belts, and tunes engines

  9. Operates equipment & machinery to assist in maintenance of water/sewer lines

  10. Must be able to perform various manual tasks as necessary or required under adverse climatic working conditions

  11. Performs various grounds maintenance tasks to maintain facility grounds in attractive appearance (mowing, weeding, trimming, etc.)

  12. Painting, general cleaning, washing vehicles and other related duties as assigned

     

Job Location

Work may be performed indoors in a shop area or out of doors in a field environment involving travel from site to site. Reporting location is the Danbury Wastewater Treatment Plant.

 

Equipment Used

Various trucks including dump trucks, pickup trucks, vans; trailers, backhoes, generators, compressors, sandblasters, forklifts, test equipment, computers, calculators, radios and various other hand, power and specialty tools; operates lawn mower, weed eater, sprayers, etc. to assist in maintenance function.

 

Physical Requirements

The work involves lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, driving, typing, reading, writing and communicating with others. The job is performed in various temperature extremes

and under certain hazardous conditions involving exposure to wastewater, chemicals and other situations that can present a risk of injury and/or illness; must be able to lift objects up to 100 pounds.

 

Critical Skills/Expertise

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and possess an Ohio Driver's License upon hire.

 

Other Responsibilities

Other related functions and responsibilities as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
