[**[POSITION SUMMARY [[Under regular supervision is responsible for operating various specialized and heavy motorized equipment for road construction and maintenance projects. Performs various related duties such as preventive maintenance, loading and hauling dirt and other materials, transporting crews, performing general and skilled labor, clearing right-of-ways, and related tasks.

• This position works 4-10 hour shifts Rotating Weekends.
• Operates medium to heavy construction and maintenance equipment in road construction, repair and maintenance of roads, storm drainage, bridge repair and construction and related facilities and systems; performs general labor tasks as related.
• Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment and makes minor repairs;
• Estimates time, materials, and supplies required to complete various tasks and repairs;
• Learns and applies new skills relating to the methods and procedures of the department;
• Trains other operators as needed;
• Works in extreme conditions of heat, cold, dust, smoke, and other weather conditions;
• Assists in snow and ice removal, provides assistance as required for emergency jobs, after hours in inclement weather conditions;
• Utilizes comprehensive knowledge of trade terminology, principles, task planning and implementation;
• Prepares, processes and maintains reports and records in order to meet the requirements of the department;
• Interacts with a variety of persons and agencies in an effective and positive manner;
• Carries out instructions and assignments in a timely manner.

[**[KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES [[Physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including trucks, trailers, rollers, loaders, bush hogs, tractors, etc. Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 20 pounds of force, or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to lift and carry weights of 10 to 150 pounds. Requires the ability to read a variety of documents and reports, such as work orders, vehicle records and charts, equipment check lists, sales slips, etc. Requires the ability to talk, hear, record and deliver information and to follow verbal and written instructions.

**[EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE [[Any combination of education and considerable experience equivalent to graduation from high school and 2+ years experience in the operation of light and medium-duty motorized equipment.
