Job Summary and Qualifications

The Outpatient Coordinator schedules patients for recurrent appointments to both Wound Care and Hyperbarics departments. Verifies Insurance Benefits. Clerical/Secretarial support to the Department and Director Outpatient Wound Care and Hyperbaric departments.

What qualifications you will need:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide secretarial support to the Department Director including correspondence, reports and memoranda as directed. Maintain an updated and current appointment calendar.

  • Receive and screen telephone calls, mail and visitors. Exercise independent judgment/discretion within scope of responsibility (ability to work with general vs. close supervision).

  • Verify insurance benefits for patients

  • Coordinate/manage a multi-physician patient centered daily schedule, check in patients as they arrive for scheduled appointment, ensure the patients’ medical records have current diagnostic results, referrals scheduled, etc.

  • Support the Director in maintaining organized and timely responses in daily activities throughout the area of responsibility. Track project deadlines. Assist with special projects as they arise. Keep confidentiality of position.

  • Record, transcribe and distribute minutes of Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center committee meetings. Prepare and distribute meeting packets. Maintain minute books, meeting schedules, membership lists, and mail message lists. Arrange meetings, reserve rooms, audio/visual equipment and refreshments.

  • Establish and maintain current and archived office files.

  • Receive, open and distribute mail; answer routine correspondence without direction.

  • Assist with Joint Commission/CMS/QRS/State survey preparations.

  • Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.

  • Promotes and adheres to all elements of the hospital and corporate ethics and compliance program. Promotes and adheres to all elements of the Patient Safety Program.

  • Perform duties and responsibilities of all lesser included jobs

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from high school or equivalent required

  • License: None required

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working in an outpatient healthcare setting

  • Thorough knowledge in verifying insurance benefits and scheduling.
